Just Me

August 27th, 2008

I’ve been home alone for 2 weeks today and I have to say, I’ve come to really enjoy spending time with myself. I’m a lot of fun! I like to do ALL the things I like to do, its so awesome. Its like I can read my mind. I always like what I make for dinner, I only want to watch trashy tv and I also hate sports. I can hardly believe how lucky I am to have found me! Its been really fun hanging out with myself!

All joking aside, that’s not to say I don’t miss Matthew, because of course I do but besides that I don’t really mind having him away as much as I thought I would. It would be nice for him to come home on the weekends, I think thats a fair compromise.

My single life is still a bit on the boring side because I’ve been working so much. Saturday I spent the entire day with my friend Adam after driving his wife and baby to the airport. It was the first time in as long as I can remember that we spent time together alone. We’ve been friends since high school and went to college together so we have spent ALOT of quality time in each other’s presence, usually with our spouses, but it was really great to have an old school type of day and just chill without the annoyance of loved ones who don’t get every single reference of our 15+ year friendship.

After dropping off Christine and Maddie we went to Williamsburg to hit up EGG, a great brunch place that I have been wanting to try.

They give you these for free

But I had to pay for this one

He “forgot” cash. Then we went to see Tropic Thunder and loved every second of it. Adam laughed his ass off which made me laugh my ass off. I swear, we both lost 10 lbs of ass laughing at that movie. He laughed so hard I thought he was going to puke, cause he did that once.

Sunday I went to Ramona’s house for a brunch. It was fantastic but I forgot to take photos because I burned my finger really badly trying to make this amazing savory tart. Ramona didn’t have any ice so I spent the entire day having my finger packed in either a bag of peas or a bag of corn. The tart turned out tasty but ugly (I burned the sides and had to cut them off with one hand) so sorry, no pics. You’ll have to trust Martha that it is indeed fabulous.

She also made a veggie frittata, bagel platter and muesli and yogurt. Very impressive spread.

I did get a shot of the plum cake she made for dessert – inspired by a recent trip to Germany and so so so good. Not super sweet but the perfect amount for a brunch dessert, or breakfast if you are feelin it.

What no recipe for the plum cake. I can’t wait to make the savory tart.
