21 Weeks

Since last week was the official halfway point I’ve kind of kicked it all into HOLY CRAP! mode. Seriously. I am having a baby you guys! It’s like I woke up and realized I haven’t done a thing to prepare, besides popping some vitamins. Maybe also thought a little about wall colors. But still, there’s gotta be more to do than that. Add the fact that we have to move on top of it all and before you know it I’m bring the baby home and putting it to sleep in a laundry basket.

So where to begin?

1- Find a doula.

This was probably the most important decision for me after choosing a midwife. We are meeting one on Saturday! I had a great convo with her this week and she seems to have a lot of the same thoughts as I do about the whole birth thing so I feel like it will be a good fit. She only lives 2 blocks away which is a nice bonus. Stay tuned.

2-Birthing classes

Read about 100 reviews and then chatted with friends that have kids in the area and seem happy with our choice. I think 12 hours of class is a bit intense for my slacker ways but I’d rather feel like I have too much info than not enough. I’m only a half-assed student anyway so as long as I pick up something it’ll be worth it. Plus its, um, in walking distance. Sealed the deal. Crossed off the to-do list!

3-Prenatal yoga

I have been meaning to do this since January, when I started feeling better. There are a few places in the neighborhood but the times just never worked out. I bit the bullet and signed up for a 6 week series starting at the end of March, right after we get back from vacation. I can supplement with other classes until then but with a few days onsite then a week away in March it didn’t make sense to sign up for something permanent. But its done! Even though it doesn’t start for a month. At least its something.

ok fine, that’s all I’ve done. But it feels like alot!

What’s left?
Coming soon:
-figuring out what I need to buy then organize it, what a doozy

Eventually:
-choosing a pediatrician and how the hell you add a baby to our insurance
-infant first aid/cpr class
-pick a day for the baby meet and greet (or as Matthew calls it, the gaze and graze)
-birth announcements
-900 other things
-win the lottery

and oh yeah – finding out what flavor cupcake we are getting! That will help with some decisions.

Starbucks VIA

The buzz has been around for a while and now that I’ve read some reviews on Starbucks new instant coffee, I’m really excited to try it.

The first review was by my old college roommate Megan, who is a for real blogger in Seattle and got invited to a tasting.

The interesting thing to me is that instant has such a bad rap (Sorry, Poppy) and my initial thought in them taking it on seemed so weird. Then I read its great for iced coffee. WHAT? Instant Iced Coffee? That’s my dream product. Selling for 3 for  $2.95, thats really a good deal compared to the $3.00 per I pay for it at the not starbucks down the street. I am a tiny bit bummed they don’t have decaf but my decaf days are dwindling, and mama needs her daily cup!

You can enter to win some on Megan’s blog, I know I am.

For lame geeks like me who like to know random facts –  VIA is named after the Starbucks former R&D guy who devised the process 20 years ago while trying to find good coffee on camping trips. He died of cancer last year.

Just Can't Get Enough: February 09 Edition

#1

onceandagain

If you follow my twitter feed you already know that I am obsessed with the 1999-2002 genius Herskovitz-Zwick drama. Almost finished with Season 2, I went to add season 3 to my netflix queue and found out that they NEVER RELEASED IT! After a few moments of shock I went into google search mode and found some dude that makes pirated DVDs for $20. It’s like dubs from TV or something. Ugh. I bet it has commercials. Probably really crappy quality and everything. I’ll let you know! It’ll be here next week!

This month I’ve been spending alot of time at home (see above) and thoroughly enjoy this candle that I got on etsy. Vanilla Hazelnut. Yum.

christmasmacbook

Matthew got me a new computer for Christmas and I have not started using it yet. This is mostly in part to my frequent traveling, but also due to the fact that I feel the need to organize every file on my current computer before I move things over. I think this is step 1 in nesting, and since I am not buying anything for the little cupcake until we find out what flavor we are getting its the only thing I can frantically obsess over. This is a picture I took on Christmas morning, the only time it has ever been out of the box.

greysweatergap

My grey sweater. I bought this at the Gap in San Francisco (flagship!) in January and have pretty much worn it every single day since. You can dress it up or down, its roomy enough that I didn’t even buy maternity and the fabric is super soft. Its perfect for the plane. I loved it so much that I went online and bought a 2nd one. Seriously. Love. The best part is that it was 40% off, then I had a coupon and I ended up paying $8.50 for the first one. Yay!

Scene: Hallway outside bathroom (where we keep all the baby books)

Matthew, exiting said room: Wow, this naming thing is complicated

Bari: So…did you see anything you like?

Matthew: I’m still reading the chapter on how to pick one!

Don’t hold your breath folks, I think it’s going to be some time till we come to a decision here. We may have to go to the mattresses!
