Dinner for Two

We are trying so hard to eat at home every night. With our crazy work schedules and constant traveling we got into the habit of ordering in or going out about half the week and besides trying to save some money I’m just plain sick of the options around here.

We realized that in order to entice us to eat in we’d have to just buy whatever we wanted, since its still way cheaper than take-out.

Matthew has decided to make us a steak dinner once a week since he is taking advantage of my new found (pregnancy) love of the red meat. Between his cast iron skillet method and the awesome spice blend we picked up in Vancouver it is just as good as going out.  I look forward to it all week. Mmmm My mouth just started watering.

METS! METS! METS!

Ever since we went to the Mets spring training game we have really been getting excited for the season. Fine, it helps that the new stadium has a shake shack but still…YOU GOTTA BELIEVE!

This hilarious video is a good representation of why being a Mets fan is so frustrating. The only thing you need to know going into it is that the 86 Mets were world champs, and that almost every year the past few years the Mets did really great until the end of the season, and then f’d everything up and made grown men cry. Even if you hate baseball it is super funny and short. Watch it!

25 Weeks

Paging Dr. Google.

I do not know what pregnant people did before the internets. Just today I got to google “pregnancy belly button pain” where the good Dr. told me its normal. So, fine. Last week it was “pregnancy leg numbness” and look at that, there are over 206,000 results. Lotsa people feeling some weird numbness from baby leaning on whatever its leaning on. Thanks little dude! Maybe you can rest your huge head a little to the left.

All in all, I’m still doing well although I feel like in the past 2 weeks I got super huge. My pants that used to fall down can barely close and I can’t wait to look back in 6 weeks and laugh myself silly but still, the tummy is becoming a slight inconvenience.

In other news, we are currently looking for an apartment with a probable move date of May 1. Unfortunately most of the places we see advertised are still for April 1 (!!) and some for the 15th so we have a bit of time until the matter is settled. I don’t need to hurry and move right away but having that all signed, sealed, delivered, what have you will really put my mind at ease. Thankfully I’m not working full time so there is little to no stress around packing. Just, UGH. I can’t really with the bending and lifting so I’ll have to be patient and wait for Matthew’s help which is kind of hard and annoying.

As long as this dumb belly button discomfort goes away soon I think I’ll be able to do alot…until the next ridiculous symptom shows up.

On the road: Florida 09

Yay! Its finally spring! I am beyond excited for the weather to start warming up. We spent the last week in Florida just relaxing and hanging out. It was a great vacation not for all the things we did, but because we did absolutely nothing. I mean nothing. We never went to the beach, or even my mom’s pool.

Part of the reason is because it was the 3rd time I was in Florida since mid january. The first was for Adam and Carin’s wedding. Unfortunately I totally forgot my camera the day of the wedding (seriously, the preggo brain is not a joke)

I did take some at the rehearsal dinner though, here is me and (his sister) michelle in the 1 crappy pic we took.

Luckily, peeps are on facebook and since the back of our heads are in this photo I didn’t feel too bad about ripping it off.

That’s Matthew in the middle looking all adorable in his yammy.

The second was a week in Miami for work, then I rented a convertible and drove up to my parents for the weekend.  The view from my room at the fountainbleau was spectacular! Too bad I never really made use of my lovely terrace.

The only real firm plan we had all week was to go to the Mets v. Marlins exhibition game. The cool thing about these games is that the stadiums are small and intimate, the not so cool thing is that they give everyone a chance so they never usually play the well known players.

On top of that it was the same week as some big baseball tournament and most of the really good players were out playing for the US team. My aunt Jane hooked us up with really great seats and we had an awesome time.

Nothing says spring like the first game of the season! (Ok even if its the off-season and the game means nothing. He may have had a good time but don’t engage my dad on the stupidity of these games. He thinks they are retardles)

The other higlight of our trip was the day we drove around and explored with my dad. We started of on the search for good (ok decent) pizza and found Downtown Pizza: the best pizza we’ve had outside of ny! Best part, they had a lunch special $4.50 for a slice, salad and soda. Can’t beat it!

In all fairness to our lazy asses the weather turned really bad on Wednesday and pretty much rained the whole rest of our trip. According to my dad it rained about .25 inch for 2 months, then wednesday it rained 5 inches. Seriously. We spent Wednesday at the mall (baby clothes say what!) and then Thursday drove all around South Fla checking out places we have never been.

Friday we relaxed in the morning then went to see Danielle (Michelle and Adam’s sister) and her family. She has 2 adorable kids and it is so great to hang out with them. We got to chatting and she realized they no longer need their pack and play or high chair taking up precious space in their garage so they gave them to us for use at my mom’s house! I was sooooo excited since it did not even cross my mind to ask her about it. On top of that she still had a bunch of old boy clothes and let me pick a few things to take home. People are so generous I can’t even stand it! With me not working and not having a shower plus moving, every item we can borrow is really the most exciting thing. I know I keep saying it over and over but seriously, I can’t believe we don’t have to buy a pack and play for my mom’s house!

Saturday we went out with my parents and Jane for my early birthday dinner. We got to sit right by the water and have a true Florida dining experience.

Oh my poor mom and her photo taking issues. See former evidence here.

The week was really fun but I’m happy to be home. On the list this week is some work, finding a new apartment, packing, baby registry and who knows what else. Can’t wait to get started on it so we can finally relax a bit before the baby gets here!

24 weeks

Yesterday I finally reached the very exciting 24 week mark! For those of you not in the know 24 weeks is considered a viable babe if one should spontaneously go into premature labor. We try not to think about stuff like that here. I can really use every last second we before the little cupcake arrives so we’re hoping he stays warm and cozy for a bit longer.

If you want to read a really funny update on where I am check out Amalah’s summary here. I literally can’t wait to read it every week and never ever read ahead, which is normally something I do so it means…something. I dont know.

This week we are maxin and relaxin in Florida at my parents house. Its rained the past day or so which turned into nice opportunities to shop for baby clothes(!!). Since I’m not having a shower (long story short I decided I’d rather have a party for the baby after he is born so people can see him instead of just see me, all fat and uncomfortable and boring) I don’t really care when people say “but people want to buy you things” because I am starting out with alot less than most people are used to. Plus, I DON’T CARE WHAT PEOPLE SAY! Shocker, I know. I feel like I need to start every conversation with this sentence I twittered the other day:

Baby: Midwife. Hospital. Breastfeeding. Boy. Bris. Unnamed. HAVE ANY MORE QUESTIONS??!!!???

Cause you know what, everyone keeps trying to tell me what I should or shouldn’t be doing, and guess what – no one tells me what to do.

Other than me being fed up with the bad assvice I am doing pretty well. I am happy to be keeping my weight gain at a nice pace (10 lbs in 6 mos sounds like alot but it’s not!) and can’t wait to start yoga next week. At practically 2/3rds of the way there I have the odd ache and pain and random symptom but I still remain nausea, heartburn and barf free! Now if I can only get some sleep I’d be a pretty happy camper.

Lunch hour

I was onsite Monday-Wednesday in NYC so even though I got to sleep at home I had to be at work in midtown by 6:30am, home around 8pm and right to sleep. Last night Matthew scored some free tix to Guys and Dolls so after I finished up at work we grabbed a bite to eat and went to the show.

Today is a very rare, very exciting day not only because I have the day off, but because Matthew is working from home! He got up early, made coffee and walked the 4 steps to the office but I lounged with my snoogle and stayed in bed for as long as possible. Basking in the glory of not having to get up at 5:30am.

Around 1 o’clock we decided to go out for lunch together and headed to Defonte’s. Its just a deli about 10 minutes away that’s been around since 1922. They have all kinds of hot and cold food but the only thing we ever go for is their fresh hot delicious roast beef sandwiches. They recently opened a branch in the city but please, it can’t possibly be the same.

belly-2

May be time to invest in some maternity clothes? I think this poor little green Tshirt is dunzo. It wasn’t that roomy to begin with and now the belly is showing it no mercy.

Excuse the impromptu sans makeup or hairbrush photo shoot. I can’t believe I actually agreed to a photo being taken!

One of my favorite artists, Amy Ruppel, recently opened an etsy shop and I am SO excited. My Amy Ruppel collection is vast and I love amassing new items in interesting ways. So far I have 2 of her original pieces, a paperweight she designed for Anthropologie, a number of greeting cards to frame and a special edition print.

This piece is adorable and a great deal – Its inexpensive compared to her original work, but has the same look and feel. Plus its available, her original work is a little bit harder to obtain since items sell out within minutes.

Lucky for me Cupcake is a boy so I don’t have to share my collection.

22 Weeks (4 days)

baby-boy-gap

I was finally able to do a little shopping!

This week we had the big ultrasound (seriously, it was hours long) and at the very end I was rewarded for my patience with news of  A BOY! We really couldn’t be more thrilled. I’m sure part of the reason is because I thought it was a boy all along and it just feels nice to be right, you know?

Other than that little fact the ultrasound went really well, the doctor said everything looked “beautiful” Hmm, I thought you were seeing a midwife you say? Yes, I am, but I do all the ultrasounds at the hospital where we are delivering. Its nice to get the routine down and know the people a bit. I feel that when we finally go there to have the baby we’ll have been there so many times it will feel less scary. The testing unit is on the same floor as labor and delivery and I think it’s kind of nice to know the lay of the land.

We found a fabulous doula! She is a really wonderful woman who has worked with my midwife before. She also knows the hospital and doctors/nurses there really well so she offers so much insight into what we can expect for our particular birth. I’m really happy to have her and get to know her better before my due date. She teaches pre-natal yoga and lives about 2 blocks away.

In other news we started to work on the baby’s room and I’m so excited to see the pieces come together (on the floor of my dining room) We got the crib and a rug and other than that we are planning on using stuff we have mixed in with a new bookcase or shelves from Ikea. Simple simple. Once we see what his room looks like we can make decisions on the fun stuff that I really like and wish I could get started on (artwork! window coverings!) but alas, I guess its nice to space things out.

Which reminds me – 3 more weeks until my 3rd trimester! How crazy is that? Just as I started to think about how much better I’ve have been feeling since January I realize that I only have a few precious days left of being in the glorious 2nd trimester, I feel robbed! Everything is going by so fast. I just hope I continue feeling great for as long as possible. I am so happy the warm weather is on its way, and with it lots of walks in the park (even if they are very, very short)
