3 months old

3monthbday

Turns out having a 3 month old is totally awesome. Asher is just so much fun these days I can hardly stand it. Well not these days exactly. The past week or so he’s been going through a growth spurt and is eating every hour or two. When he’s not eating he’s grumpy. So like before this week it was totally more fun, and next week will probably be a lot of fun too. In any case he’s lucky he’s cute. I’ll leave it at that.

Milestones and other novel things:

Asher: flew on 2 planes with zero meltdowns, is growing some light brownish blonde hair, went in a pool, found his toes, met great-grandparents and lots and lots of floridians, had a new daddy named Jessica for a week while Matthew was in chicago. Loves: being outside, music class, getting his shirt on in the morning and blondes. Dislikes: napping, being in the car, not having a boob attached to him.

Me: Who are we kidding, no one cares what I did this month.

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuudes!

on the road: the first vacation

So where have I been? Oh you know…around.

We spent the week before last in Florida visiting my parents, soaking in the sunshine, and introducing Asher to lots of friends and family.

The plane ride was great. I wasn’t really worried about it until we walked onto the plane and I realized that I have the potential to be “that mom” but thankfully Asher wasn’t “that baby” so we all had a very peaceful and uneventful journey. He spent the majority of the flight in The Lifesaver.

As in ITWILLTOTALLYSAVEYOURLIFE. This thing, this tiny piece of stretchy fabric comes eveywhere with me and it really is a life saver. He just chills out the second I put this sucker on.

While the trip on a whole was a little less vacation and a little more of a learning experience we had a great time and can’t wait to go back.

One of the highlights of the trip was hanging out with my grandparents, or as I like to refer to them:

The tannest people in America.

Another highlight was randomly planning this trip at the same time that Matthew’s aunt and uncle (who live outside Vancouver) would be in town. We found out the day we left and were able to meet up with them for lunch

Other than that what’d we do? Not a lot. Went to the outlet mall one day. Got our butts to dairy queen on another day.
They were in the middle of a heat wave which in Florida is H-O-T so our outside activities were limited. We took Asher into the pool one evening at 5 o’clock because that’s the only time it was below 90.

toe non-fetish

A couple days ago I noticed whenever my left big toe touched anything it was slightly uncomfortable. The next day it really really hurt. Now honestly, I am not very intimate with my toes. Every few weeks a nice lady scrubs them and changes the polish. We have barely any contact. I mean, I don’t talk to them, they don’t talk to me. We just live separate lives man! I didn’t even see the little guys for about 3 months this spring so maybe we drifted apart. Who knows.

I decided to begin an investigation. After about 24 hours and some unproductive poking and prodding I googled myself a foot doctor and made the first appointment they had available.

I was not happy that I had to go alone and Matthew wouldn’t be there to hold my hand during the probable amputation because he had to watch the baby. He tried to make me feel better by saying “Well if something is wrong they probably wont do anything today”

OH YES THEY WILL!

I walked all the way around the corner, got up on the chair and braced for the worst. Why do I have to lose my toe, WHYYYYYYYYYY??

It was uneventful. I had some kind of infection but caught it in time. If I had waited another day or 2 I would have needed antibiotics and there would have been needles involved but instead it was some cold spray and then I have no idea what because my eyes were closed but it REALLY REALLY hurt then it was over and I left with this and instructions to keep it clean and dry, you know – the usual.

Just in time for my long awaited Florida vacation.

Life is really a bitch sometimes.

petal mirror

I am really into this petal mirror that recently went on sale at Pottery Barn Kids. (secret=I love mirrors and own more than we can fit on the walls of our apartment)

Unfortunately $142.99 is not quite the sale price I was hoping for. Maybe next go around.

creating a monster

Our good friend Adam was over last week and Asher was all insane for his funny face shenanigans. Specifically opening his mouth really wide and screaming. Hey, whatever works right?

The kid loved it! Over the weekend I started making loud noises and sticking my tongue out to make him laugh and he went crazy for it.

Maybe a little too crazy. To our surprise he started sticking out his tongue to get our attention. He had never done it before and now every time you put him on the changing table he tries to get you to laugh by sticking out his tongue, then you stick out yours, laughs all around, repeat from the top, etc. We tried to get it on video about 900 times but this dude is camera shy! Either that or he just gets distracted by the shiny. We were just shocked that he came up with this clever little game (insert gushy parent face here)

Here is the best one we got.
