denver to singapore

This guy takes a picture every few minutes on his trip to singapore and makes a video of it. Completely fun to watch.
I love the internet.

fall television update

Over a month in and how am I doing? Poorly.

I’m not sure if its just exhaustion or that TV is pretty horrible these days but I found myself ditching previously watched shows for stuff like “King of  the Crown

Here’s the update:

Existing Shows
How I Met Your Mother – yay
Heroes – completely forgot I missed the last half of last season. so no.
Gossip Girl – college is kinda lame compared to HS but i’m still watching
One Tree Hill – I do not have the brain capacity for brand new characters. Hanging by a thread.
90210 – awesome, even better than last year. Everyone is so much more…shiny.
Americas Next Top Model – short bitches are annoying, other than that its fantastic
Bones - is this on yet? if so I am way far behind
Greys Anatomy – yep
The Office – yep
30 Rock – yep
Supernatural  - 5 eps behind because I watch it with MP and he is never ever home
The Ghost Whisperer – oh HELL no they did not fast forward 5 years into the future. They just lost their only viewer
Ugly Betty – so good but I’m terrified it will be cancelled
Brothers and Sisters  - kind of boring lately
The Amazing Race – love

plus: Mad Men, Top Chef, Project Runway, Army Wives - all yes (good, awesome, good, kinda lame)

Forgot to include: Rachel Zoe Project -bananas, Toddlers and Tiaras – love, and Greek - seriously behind because they dont replay.

New Shows I Am Going To Try Out
The Biggest Loser -maybe, if I can get the 1st episode -No
Mercy -a doctor show. Might not like it - SNORE
The Beautiful Life – Mischa Barton and models. as Matthew says, every show on the CW is exactly the same. Which I think is their hook.-Cancelled before I watched
Modern Family – looks cute, we’ll see. not expecting anything - ADORBS! Love this show. Best new show on TV. 500x better than glee (see below)
Cougar Town – Sure I’ll try it – Haven’t seen it, found out just last week it’s a comedy. Who knew!
Melrose Place – Maybe, the pilot was v boring. It is on the CW though… Booooooooring
Glee – delicious fun, love it already – Decided I only like the musical numbers. Still watching it anyway.
Flash Forward – Will try it once. - Nope
Eastwick – Totally in -never gave it a shot
Vampire Diaries – of course. (CW!) -Watched 1 eps, like it. Need to catch up on the rest.

What should I bother watching? Any recommendations?

halloween

Halloween 2009

halloweenash3

I couldn’t bring myself to dress Asher up in something too goofy – the guy has a reputation to uphold you know.

halloweenash2

So instead he was…I don’t know what you’d call it…an ex-con?

Classy

halloween4

In any case he was comfortable on a warmish halloween day.

Ramona came over and we went to a little party with my moms group at one of the gal’s houses.

We tried to take a group photo and it was a total cluster and wow, I am really, really pale.

halloween3

Her block was crazy. Everyone dresed up and stood outside handing out candy.

sherman

(Where can I get this Elvis costume for next year?)

It must be the place to go because exactly 1 person rang our bell all evening.

After the party Ramona and I watched Twilight (it’s halloweeny right?) and waited for trick-or-treaters. I guess we didn’t need the hemo sized candy bag from costco. Which I am never buying again because we are eating it all fun size piece by fun size piece.

Sorry little dressed up dudes. Next year you are getting pencils!

the coffee experiment

I’m sure most of you do not remember but back in February I heard about a product called VIA by Starbucks. Its their new instant coffee.

I signed up on their site for more info and last week they emailed me asking if I wanted to try it out.

YES PLEASE!

So they sent me a big box.

via4

In the box was coffee, a flip video camera and a tumbler along with instructions to get the word out to people about VIA and to get them some feedback. A beta test if you will.

via2

Of course I immediately tried it and decided not to bother having anyone else try it thank you very much because it is AWESOME.

I think it’s made for me.

via3

You put the powder in a glass with 8oz water, and voila – delicious coffee in 2 seconds.

The crazy super fantastic wonderful marvelous part is you can do this hot or cold and its equally as good.

And I mean good.

icedcoffee

Now love iced coffee like nobody’s business but cannot stand hot coffee. In our house Matthew makes a big old press full of coffee then I get to drink it the next day. Its completely annoying so I usually prefer to go out and buy some on my own. But that’s all OUUUTSIIIIIIIIDE. Used to be an adventure, now is just a hassle. I usually want my coffee way before I am ready to get Asher all up and at ‘em. I told you it was made for me.

So here’s the deal…

Do you want to try it too??

If so then comment on this post and I’ll get in touch with you about it.

The only catch is this…

I NEED YOUR FEEDBACK. I like told Starbucks I’d get it for them and stuff. If you have a blog that’s great, just post about it and link me back. If not then that’s ok too. Take pix or a video. Videos of what? I have no idea but I’m sure you’ll think of something! If you live near me I can drop off the flip they sent me but if not I’m sure you can figure out how to take one and I’ll let you know how to get it to me.

I guess if it’s all too much and no one is interested that’s ok too. More for meeeeeeee!

Absorb This Book

I love reading. I love, love, love to read. Like, read books under my desk during class in 4th grade love. Like, stay up for hours reading in the bathroom because that’s the only place there is light love. Like, take out 10 books at a time from the library love. Like, “I’m reading this great book you should read. What book is it??? Oh, I already read that” love.

I used to read a lot. About 2 1/2 years ago I started working from home and I went from reading at least 2 books a week to maybe 2 a month. CRAZY. Towards the end of my pregnancy I stopped working and started reading at a faster pace again. It made me realize how much I missed it.

People like to tell you that when you have a baby your life changes. That is so obviously correct. But to try and tell me that I won’t have time to read – just not happening (I have taken a shower every single day too, which I hear is some kind of amazing feat. No idea why)

I did admit to myself maybe the 3 weeks they give you at the library isn’t quite enough with a newborn so I broke down and ordered a few books. One was pre-ordered and finally came in the mail last week. I am really looking forward to devouring it.

ppw_081309

It takes place in our neighborhood and SJP already bought the rights. Perfectly delicious for my poor little sleep deprived brain.

Oddly enough my other book came from a recommendation from this tweet:

imptweet

It arrived about a week after we got home from the hospital and days later when I finally cracked it open to my surprise…

It was a comic strip.

imposterdaughter

No, Seriously!

A comic strip book!??

I do not get comics.

But I cracked it open one day and could not put it down. The story is great, the writing is amazing and the illustrations are…pretty (??) (I don’t know, I really don’t get comics) You should read this book. Is that what they call looking at comics? Reading? Looking at? Absorbing? Well read/ look at /absorb this book!

Thanks, Laurie Sandell for making your awesome book the first one I ever read* (as a mom AND the first comic! Bam! FIRSTS!)

imposterdcover

*Maybe. The jury is still out.

UPDATE: My husband alerted me to the fact that the above comic strip book might be more appropriately referred to as a “graphic novel” Call it what you will  but don’t be fooled. Its still a big long comic strip!

Continuing Education

I have wanted to take a photography class since I bought my DSLR in 2006. I realized quickly that with my travel schedule I’d never be able to take an actual class that you have to attend since I’d have to miss so many sessions. I found some online classes that looked great but it never worked out. Stupid traveling every month. Stupid work schedule. Stupid WORKING.

Well I am working no more so I finally signed up for one! I am so excited!

The photographer that teaches the class is a former brooklynite who does amazing work. I mean look at these. I am so bummed she moved because I’d love to do a family series with her…maybe one day.

Here are the details-

Welcome to the digital photography class! I’m so excited to have you here for this experience! Class will begin Monday September 7th with your first lesson plan, assignment, and email. In the meantime, make sure you have your camera manual out, your batteries charged and your memory cards ready!

Let’s summarize some of the features of our class:

  • I’ll walk you through the different modes on your camera and how to use them.
  • I’ll address basic camera techniques, teach you about finding and using natural light, and composition rules.
  • Step-by-step video tutorials let you see and hear the techniques
  • You’ll get a lesson plan and assignment each week.
  • You’ll get an email from me 5 days a week for six weeks, with encouragement, coupons, and inspiration
  • You’ll get access to our private class message board, where you can chat with other participants about anything you like
  • I’ll be available once a week for a class chat to answer any questions about the lesson and assignment from the week.
  • You’ll get access to our class image gallery, where you can upload your lesson photographs and get praise and feedback from other students and a critique from the instructor
  • All of the videos you’ll see will be available forever from your course home page at JessicaSprague.com. No expiration, even after the course ends!
  • You’ll also get a bonus downloadable handout about photography equipment and what to look for when buying cameras, lenses and accessories.

So yay! This should also be very exciting for all of YOU because I will hopefully stop churning out photos that look like this gem:

racefinishline

Honestly, how many more times can I get away with saying “Sorry for the crap photo”

NO MORE!

well maybe

5k-ok!

One day last week our good friend Chana (of dim sum fame) asked Matthew if he wanted to join her in a 5k for charity taking place 3 days later. Matthew, who has not run 3 steps since sometime in June, maybe May, agreed and off they went.

racestart

Asher and I walked over to the park to cheer them on.

raceash

There were alot of people there, which is great because all the money raised was going to Greg, a guy who works at the local running store who was diagnosed with cancer.

(can you spot MP?)

racecrowd

Now Chana is a triathlete and can fart her way through a 5k but she is so awesome and encouraging that she stuck with Matthew from start to finish, even when it was dark and they were running through the woods with no lights on.

We picked a spot to wait for them…

racefinishwait

Here they are after finishing, apologies for the awful, awful photo. Asher got the hiccups just as they were done and it really pissed him off.

racefinishline

And guess what folks, He didn’t even come in last place! He beat 2 other dudes! Gooooooo Matthew!

Turn your frown upside down

I was having a kind of blah day. The weather has been dreary and lame for as long as I can remember. Jaime (Matthew’s little sister) left and we are sad and lonely without her. We were about to go out to crate and barrel to pick up this rug I want for the new apartment but it is out of stock and has to be ordered. We have JUST SO MUCH packing to do. etc etc.

Then I finally gave in and watched this

7 minutes later and I’m happy as can be! Do yourself a favor and watch it if you need a little pick me up.
