I have been listening to this album from 2009 pretty much non-stop for the past month or so. I’ve heard a bunch of the songs before but once I bought the album and started listening to it I became Obsessed. To say I am no longer up on music is an understatement. Matthew is constantly downloading something new. This week he went to Atlanta to light this for the Artist’s Den:
Who? Exactly. I mostly listen to stuff I already know I like. Then I listen to it over and over again. Sometimes I can listen to 1 song 10x in a row. It drives Matthew crazy. Ok nothing drives Matthew crazy, it makes him shake his head in wonder, that’s about as crazy as he gets but still.
I basically pick an album and listen to it all the time until I move onto the next one but I haven’t loved an album like this since I had Rilo Kiley’s More Adventurous on repeat in 2004.
Its the 10 piece band, its the bare feet and the combination of awesome voices and the California of it all. Its the need for a tambourine in my hand while I’m doing dishes.
Its Home.
Good luck not wanting to listen to this song 10x in a row.
This is something I used to do a bunch, and I even have a sticky on my computer where I still track things to post, then don’t ever post. AKA story of my life. Intentions:11 Follow through:3. Eh, 2. Who are we kidding. I have 43 posts in my drafts folder.
In any case, Novemblaaaaagh is a special time where I go through all of my old drafts and think about finishing up posts from April (Did you know we went to California on vacation and I took over 1000 photos. I posted 1 photo on my blog. ONE.)
3 of the drafts I found contained posts about stuff I like written in this very format. Turns out I still like them so yay, we both win:
I have always hated earbuds but became a convert out of desperation. Matthew has a similar pair I’ve been borrowing and after losing/breaking/breaking 3 sets of headphones (left on a plane/crushed in my bag/spontaneously combusted) in the past 3 months I was ready for something new. These are pricey but come with 6 sizes of buds and have great sound. Since I bought Matthew his pair for Christmas I feel like I recommended this product to myself. Go me! (I wrote this in May but still very true. These are fantastic earbuds for the non-earbud lover.)
My friend Chana got this for me after I complimented the one she has. I went from using it onsite where I didn’t like carrying all my cards around to using it every day and leaving extraneous stuff at home. It holds a spare key, lip balm, ID, debit and money and fits in my back pocket. Everyone needs a friend like Chana.
These shoes are awesome. So light and comfortable and the sole is like a reef flip flop for those days you don’t want to get subway slime on your pedicure. As a primarily reef flip flop wearing household during summer months branching out into sanuks took a little convincing but Matthew and I both have and love these shoes to bits. (Ok these are kind of summery. Sue me)
Everything is adorable and well made. Asher has a bunch of tshirts but if I had a girl I could see myself going a little crackers over there. The quality is great and I occasionally find older ones I really want on eBay. So sick of the GAP, and Old Navy fits Asher like crap. Its apparently made for only short children.
I am dying to see this, like…yesterday. It won the Grand Jury for Best Picture at Sundance IN JANUARY and I have been waiting forever for its release. Which is today! YAY!
Ramona rolls back into town this afternoon and Matthew isn’t working late tonight. Gonna see if I can arrange a little date with one of them. (not picky)
I have one of Sharon Montrose’s original prints but these new ones are RIDICULOUS. I think you have to be careful what else you have in the room, it looks like all that cuteness can get to be too precious. I still really, really, really want one. Maybe that duckling. Or the tiger cub. Or the laaaaaaamb!
I’m going to try something new and post a photo every day in April. I have about a zillion posts I never seem to finish and since April is my first work-free month in a while (my hi-YAY!-tus if you will) I thought it was a good time to try it out.
Caveat: I am not promising the photo will be from that day, although most of the time it probably will be.
Today’s photo is something I have been thinking about all week… a nutella and banana crepe from Crespella.
Its exactly as good as it looks. No. Better, I think.
Asher LOVES soup. He’s gotten really good at eating on his own with a spoon and if we have soup around we give it to him. He really likes lentils so frozen leftover lentil soup in small Asher sized portions is a meal of choice around here. Its also the only time we can trick him into eating a carrot. What kind of kid can eat a bowl of broccoli for dinner 3x a week but won’t touch a deliciously roasted carrot? Its mind-boggling.
Matzoh ball soup is a long standing favorite of mine, I have been eating it for breakfast since I was tiny. If its in the fridge I must have it. Especially if it was my grandmothers. As she has gotten older and stopped cooking so much my mom has taken over quite nicely and I always have to have a bit in the freezer for a sick day. Another version I really enjoy is Mara’s, and we’ve been able to have it the past fewpassovers at the Levi’s house. My brother’s girlfriend Jen though, I have to say, has gotten everyone beat hands down. I don’t know what she does but sistah shows up with a pot of soup and the fixins to make matzoh balls and cooks them up right in my kitchen. I asked her to make it for Thanksgiving and again 2 weeks later for Channukah. If they were going to be in town at Chrsitmas you know we’d be having it again then.
As much as I love Jen’s soup there is another person in this house who likes it even more. Likes it so much he created a sign for it so he can let us know when he wants it.
In this video I thought he was signing “baby” but we have come to realize that its his made up sign for soup – sort of like stirring the pot.
Like I mentioned yesterday we used to travel a lot during holidays. Thanksgiving in Amsterdam one year, Christmas in Dublin the next. This was mostly due to our freelance work schedule, its pretty dead around the holidays and if we aren’t getting paid we might as well use the time to our advantage. In 2006 we spent the week between Christmas and New Years in London and Edinburgh. Definitely kind of chilly, but also really awesome in a way you cannot duplicate in the spring or summer.

While were were sorting through the crates of Christmas decos we found a small box with a New York theme and I immediately flashed back to that Christmas in London. We spent a few days visiting Matthew’s cousins (for lack of a better term) that were living there for the year with their 2 girls. We brought a bunch of NY themed gifts to open upon arrival since we were flying in Christmas morning and totally crashing their breakfast.
I knew the box immediately but couldn’t really remember why we came back with it until I opened it up and saw what was inside.
Ornaments.
Ornaments from Harrods.
They are just so pretty I can’t stand it! Its like receiving a gift from the Bari of Christmas Past
Dear Past Bari,
You did a nice job on the ornaments, although I see you were always awfully fond of pink.
I have been using fingerless gloves for years. These are a kind of different and fancy enough to wear onsite (where I have been known to wear a fleece over my suit jacket)
