29 Weeks

This week’s alternate title: I should have maybe gotten a bigger bottle.

tums

Does this come in hemo?

Whats that!?? you say? How can this be?? you say. I thought everything was so great, great, great.

WELL. It was. It still is really. I am peeking at my 8th month and still got off pretty easily with no barfees, no sciatica (yet), and the best news of the week - I do not have gestational diabetes. I was also told that I do not have anemia, which is hilarious because since I’ve been pregnant I have been craving red meat like a texas cowboy so it wasn’t exactly a concern.  I don’t even have heartburn. So why the tums? I have something that we have dubbed “The Burps” I literally cannot stop burping sometimes. It started about a week ago and is driving me crazy! I asked the midwife and she looked at me with a sad face for my terrible problems and said to try it. I don’t know if they help much more than the placebo effect that actually taking medication provides but whatevs, you can take up to 24 a day and they are full of calcium. I better get to costco.

Paging Dr. Google.

I do not know what pregnant people did before the internets. Just today I got to google “pregnancy belly button pain” where the good Dr. told me its normal. So, fine. Last week it was “pregnancy leg numbness” and look at that, there are over 206,000 results. Lotsa people feeling some weird numbness from baby leaning on whatever its leaning on. Thanks little dude! Maybe you can rest your huge head a little to the left.

All in all, I’m still doing well although I feel like in the past 2 weeks I got super huge. My pants that used to fall down can barely close and I can’t wait to look back in 6 weeks and laugh myself silly but still, the tummy is becoming a slight inconvenience.

In other news, we are currently looking for an apartment with a probable move date of May 1. Unfortunately most of the places we see advertised are still for April 1 (!!) and some for the 15th so we have a bit of time until the matter is settled. I don’t need to hurry and move right away but having that all signed, sealed, delivered, what have you will really put my mind at ease. Thankfully I’m not working full time so there is little to no stress around packing. Just, UGH. I can’t really with the bending and lifting so I’ll have to be patient and wait for Matthew’s help which is kind of hard and annoying.

As long as this dumb belly button discomfort goes away soon I think I’ll be able to do alot…until the next ridiculous symptom shows up.

21 Weeks

Since last week was the official halfway point I’ve kind of kicked it all into HOLY CRAP! mode. Seriously. I am having a baby you guys! It’s like I woke up and realized I haven’t done a thing to prepare, besides popping some vitamins. Maybe also thought a little about wall colors. But still, there’s gotta be more to do than that. Add the fact that we have to move on top of it all and before you know it I’m bring the baby home and putting it to sleep in a laundry basket.

So where to begin?

1- Find a doula.

This was probably the most important decision for me after choosing a midwife. We are meeting one on Saturday! I had a great convo with her this week and she seems to have a lot of the same thoughts as I do about the whole birth thing so I feel like it will be a good fit. She only lives 2 blocks away which is a nice bonus. Stay tuned.

2-Birthing classes

Read about 100 reviews and then chatted with friends that have kids in the area and seem happy with our choice. I think 12 hours of class is a bit intense for my slacker ways but I’d rather feel like I have too much info than not enough. I’m only a half-assed student anyway so as long as I pick up something it’ll be worth it. Plus its, um, in walking distance. Sealed the deal. Crossed off the to-do list!

3-Prenatal yoga

I have been meaning to do this since January, when I started feeling better. There are a few places in the neighborhood but the times just never worked out. I bit the bullet and signed up for a 6 week series starting at the end of March, right after we get back from vacation. I can supplement with other classes until then but with a few days onsite then a week away in March it didn’t make sense to sign up for something permanent. But its done! Even though it doesn’t start for a month. At least its something.

ok fine, that’s all I’ve done. But it feels like alot!

What’s left?
Coming soon:
-figuring out what I need to buy then organize it, what a doozy

Eventually:
-choosing a pediatrician and how the hell you add a baby to our insurance
-infant first aid/cpr class
-pick a day for the baby meet and greet (or as Matthew calls it, the gaze and graze)
-birth announcements
-900 other things
-win the lottery

and oh yeah - finding out what flavor cupcake we are getting! That will help with some decisions.

Scene: Hallway outside bathroom (where we keep all the baby books)

Matthew, exiting said room: Wow, this naming thing is complicated

Bari: So…did you see anything you like?

Matthew: I’m still reading the chapter on how to pick one!

Don’t hold your breath folks, I think it’s going to be some time till we come to a decision here. We may have to go to the mattresses!

17 Weeks

img_1810

I’m 17 wks pregnant today!

What does that mean?

The baby is about 5 inches long according to the email I get every week from babycenter. The size of 2 lemons put together???? Where do they come up with this? Other than that, not alot. I have a midwife appointment tomorrow then week after next I think we’ll be able to do the anatomy ultrasound. Yay!

I decided that I really need to start blogging my pregnancy because I am not a journal person and need to remember all this stuff, especially to be able to look back on everything and compare next time! Sorry but there may be too much info, and alot of boring baby-related musings but what can I say, I don’t have much else going on right now.

Symptoms

Not very many. From the beginning I was tired, I am still tired and can spend more time than usual in bed but it is so much better than a few months ago I can’t even compare. I had a slight bit of nausea every morning for about 10 weeks but then it tapered off. We are both still kind of shocked that I never once threw up. I am usually quite the barfer.

Heading into my 5th month I feel totally fine most of the time. I am not one of those people that are going to go on and on about the joys of pregnancy but I really can’t complain compared to most. I still get these awful sinus headaches and without the assistance of advil its not pretty but I’m dealing. I’ve been working and traveling alot and ended up with swollen ankles a few weeks back but after a day or 2 they were back to normal.

I think my biggest issue these days is the ridiculous amount of time spent in the bathroom. The only time I do not have to pee is when I am peeing. Its like one minute I’m totally fine, the next minute IHAVETOGOSOBADWATCHOUT!! It would be great if that can stop anytime soon but I fear its only going to get worse. Also, I miss pooping.

Oh and yes, I am finally starting to get a little belly. The hard bulge  (aka Baby) seems to have moved from my lower right abdomen to right smack in the middle and now I can’t button my pants. So there’s that. And no, you may certainly not have a picture.

Cravings

Salty salt licks with salt on it please. No, seriously. Salt. pickles, cheese, pretzels, chips, anything salty. I have also been eating a ton of red meat (well a ton for me) Matthew is super excited to think that maybe the baby loves meat! Can it be??

So would you prefer a boy or girl?

I don’t care, as long as it likes hamburgers

Other (?)

We have to move. We always knew this as our lease is up July 1 and we were never planning on renewing. We think we can probably find a better deal, plus we’d really like to be settled by May. More to come on that.

We started looking into what we will need to buy for Cupcake and it’s making me a bit crazy. I just want to know what kind we are getting so I can go out and get everything already! Like yesterday! We already have a crib and decided we won’t buy much more than a rug, dresser/changing table combo (hopefully a secondhand dresser that we can put a changing pad on) and a billy bookcase from ikea. Since we are moving in the spring and have no idea how big the room is going to be (i’m sure tiny) I am not holding out on room for a chair but I am scouring craigslist for something basic just to have in there.

Luckily Adam and Christine are letting us borrow a bunch of stuff they bought for Maddie so that will definitely save us some cash.  Matthew picked up a box that barely fit in the back of our truck last week. They are so generous in allowing us to store things for them until they need it again! But seriously, we need so many things every single thing we can borrow instead of buy means so much - so please let me know!

Strollers are probably the thing I’m the most obsessed with since I will be the one at home by myself for a while and will have to get around. We live in such a walkable area and so close to the park that I want something sturdy that will last for a while on the uneven NYC streets and other rough terrain. We also travel alot and have that to think about too. I might have to do a whole post on my research because it is too long to go into here. And research I have done.
